Yikes, last update was a wee while back, just thought I'd quickly touch base on this night before I go back to school for what will undoubtedly be another hectic term.

Been feeling particularly uninspired for current photography assignment. Have uploaded a few photos from it thus far though have lot track of what exactly my ideas are so have been working to sort that out. Assignment is due in two weeks and in that time I have to clarify my ideas and print a boards worth of photos (12-15 minimum - no sweat once I get my ideas sussed.) I regret not trying something new with this little internal as after this we go onto our big externally assessed 3xA1 boards and we have the opportunity to transfer our work from this little assignment onto that or start fresh. I'm thinking of starting fresh as , like I said, I haven't been feeling particularly inspired by my artist models and ideas and I have a new idea niggling around in my head so we shall see...

Also considering going digital now. I've always been one to stand by the traditional chemicals and darkroom but I'm finding I'm very uninspired by traditional unmanipulated prints and as I get more familiar with Photoshop, I'm wanting to do a lot more complex manipulations which I'm just finding too time consuming in the darkroom. Last year a lot of my class regretting going digital because it wasn't any cheaper and it was a hassle to print them (heh - I ended up doing for them at my work so don't know what they were complaining about) but I do have that convenience of access to my shiny work photolab. Also, I've just bought the Canon 400D (Squeee!) and want to get familiar with it. So again, we shall see.

Design however has been going well, feeling very happy with my idea and once I get around to converting some of my work to JPEG I will upload some of that too. Had an initial issue similar to photography where I was having some trouble clarifying my ideas but got there in the end. Like with photography, I can carry on the current internal (calendar design) onto the externally assessed 3xA1 boards which I think I will do because I've got a lot of good ideas to push around and extend on. You'll see. ;)

Also ended up doing some set design for my school musical which was pretty damned proud of - photos of this are of course in my gallery. It was really cool to actually feel I was contributing something to the music where in previous years I was just another face in the chorus. I had people coming up to me while I was painting or whatnot and asking me questions genuinely interested in what I was doing and just seeing and hearing people's reactions when they saw my work, especially my pride and joy that were the stained glass windows, was just an incredible in the feeling. In the program I was under 'Set Artist' which made me all kinds of happy.

This term, armed with my shiny new camera, I will be taking photos for the build up of publicity for the school Multi Cultural concert which I can't say a lot about yet except that I'm feeling quite keen about it, even though one of my less than favourite, very unorganised teachers is attached to it but then again so is one of my very good, very organised friends so it should work out alright.

At some point I also did the interior layout design for the NZlarps magazine which again received some nice praise. At some point I also got recruited to do the layout design for the school magazine which I think I've ended up running as well which is many kinds of exciting...and by exciting I mean stress which resulted in my plotting of murdering my media studies teacher. It also somehow led to me becoming a member of the student excecutive which I do no remember signing up for or expressing and interest in. =/ Ah well...

I should probably also be thinking about and putting together a portfolio for wherever I'm off to next year. My plan so far consists of 'I'll apply at all the art schools (ie all four of them) and see where I get in and decide from there'.

Yipes. That was rather lengthy. Been a crazy term and its another crazy one to come. Gotten a bit slack on submissions but have just had so much on, will try get some of my design work up. =) Next holidays I'm off to America for two weeks which will be absolutely awesome but more on that later.
